It was “sun’s out, bras out” in Playa Del Rey on Sunday morning, as hundreds of bra-clad runners laced up to run to raise money for breast cancer survivors.
The 12th edition of the BRA Run, sponsored by Torrance Memorial Medical Center, consisted of a 5K race, a 13K race and a special kids run.
In its 12th year, the run supports Evelyn’s BFF, a non-profit public benefit charity foundation dedicated to helping breast cancer survivors “get back to their new normal” by supporting them with counseling, reconstruction and other things that may not be covered by insurance.
The event is the charity’s largest fundraiser of the year, and runners were encouraged to show up in a decorated bra or a “dressed up” shirt. Of course, there were winners for best decorated bra (male and female) and best dressed team.
One of the groups that came out Sunday morning was from Whittier, and they said that events like these not only help breast cancer survivors, but they also help the group grow closer.
“We’re a family…it’s just great to be out here together early in the morning and cheering everyone on,” one of the group members said.
