A man is dead following a two-car crash in Burbank, where authorities say both vehicles were traveling at a high rate of speed.
The incident occurred around 11:15 p.m. Saturday near the intersection of Vanowen Street and Hollywood Way in Burbank.
Investigators say both cars were speeding while going east on Vanowen Street when they collided as they approached Hollywood Way.
The force of the crash caused the vehicles to careen into a utility pole, and then a fire hydrant. The utility pole was knocked down, and one of the vehicles sheared the fire hydrant.
One of the vehicles involved was a white Scion. The driver was ejected from the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene. Video from the Citizen App shows the vehicle with significant damage, and it appears the victim is pinned under the Scion.
Water is shooting out of the fire hydrant as emergency responders attempt to aid the male victim.
The identity of the deceased is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
The second vehicle involved is a Toyota Corolla. The driver suffered moderate injuries and was treated by paramedics at the site of the crash.
Officers say it is unknown if drugs or alcohol played a role in the crash, but speed was a factor.
