A Lancaster resident, Matthew Switalski, age 37, entered a plea of not guilty to charges associated with the harrowing incident involving the death of a woman, believed to be his girlfriend, Veronica Aguilar. Her severely burned remains were discovered in the trunk of a vehicle, a grim scene unfolding in the Quartz Hill area of Lancaster. This legal proceeding follows Switalski’s apprehension on December 21, subsequent to the grim discovery on December 20. Accusations against him include the intentional setting of a fire within his residential garage, the same location where Aguilar’s body was found.
In an earlier act of remembrance, the community gathered at Anaverde Park in Palmdale
to honor Aguilar’s memory. This vigil, attended by a gathering of family, friends, and local community members, served as a poignant tribute to Aguilar, reflecting on her life and contributions. Aguilar, remembered for her academic achievements as a UCLA graduate and her role as an elementary school teacher, left a lasting impact on those around her. This collective mourning and respect showcased the depth of the community’s loss and the enduring spirit of Aguilar’s legacy.
