William Cornelis Boer, 61, of Moorpark was charged with multiple felonies Friday after attempting to blow up his house with his wife inside and firing a weapon at officers.
The Ventura County District Attorney’s Office said deputies responded to the call on Tuesday, Sept. 10, when they learned the victim was inside her home with her estranged husband.
Officials heard reports that Boer placed propane tanks inside the home and turned on the gas to the stove. His wife fled the house when he allegedly attempted to ignite a lighter.
Following her exit, Boer barricaded himself inside the home, starting a standoff with law enforcement.
During this, Boer fired a weapon at officers stationed outside. None were injured.
Boer surrendered around 8:00 p.m. and officers took him into custody without further incident, according to the D.A.’s Office. Investigators recovered a long rifle and a pistol from the home.
The Ventura County District Attorney’s Office announced it charged Boer with two felony counts of attempted murder, one felony count of possessing explosives and one felony count of attempting to set fire to a structure.
The Moorpark man is in custody without bail, awaiting his arraignment scheduled for Oct. 11.
