A Redlands man has been taken into custody after the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department identified him as the driver who fatally struck a pedestrian in Yucaipa on Thursday.
The victim, a 62-year-old man from Yucaipa, was found dead in the roadway near the intersection of Yucaipa Boulevard and 17th Street at about 9:45 p.m., the Sheriff’s Department said in a news release.
Investigators determined the vehicle, a black 2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee, hit the man and fled the scene.
The driver of that vehicle, 30-year-old Steven Runyan, was arrested for felony hit-and-run causing injury.
He was booked into the Central Detention Center and is being held in lieu of $30,000 bail.
Runyan is due to appear in San Bernardino Superior Court on Tuesday.
