Two suspects who allegedly stole a Kia Soul were taken into custody following a pursuit through the San Fernando Valley.
Initial information from stringer service OnSceneTV indicates that Los Angeles Police Department officers observed the stolen vehicle in Chatsworth early Tuesday morning.
When a traffic stop was attempted, the suspects fled, and a pursuit was initiated.
During the pursuit, which lasted an unknown duration, the suspects ditched the Kia near the intersection of Oakdale Avenue and Mayall Street around 1:30 a.m. and fled on foot.
Officers quickly established a perimeter and requested the assistance of a K9 unit, according to preliminary reports.
Eventually, the suspects were located and apprehended; video from the scene obtained by KTLA depicts them being taken into custody.
The ignition of the Kia was clearly punched out, indicating that the suspects may have used a method popularized on social media where would-be thieves bypass the car’s security system by using something as simple as a USB cable or flathead screwdriver to start the vehicle.
KTLA reached out to the LAPD for more information, but they were not immediately able to disclose any more details surrounding the pursuit.
